Make Matt Yours Today

Meet the Designers

It all started with our Founder and CEO, Svet Simov. Inspired by the challenge of creating a functional yet beautiful sans-serif, Svet worked alongside type designers Ivelina Martinova and Ani Dimitrova to perfect every detail.

Interview with the Designers

What inspired you to create Matt? Tell us more about the concept behind it.

Svet: To be honest, I wasn’t setting out to create the ultimate sans serif font—that sounds way too pretentious! (laughs) My goal was simply to build on my previous work in this style and make it better. I wanted Matt to be functional, versatile, and visually appealing, even at very large sizes. I think I’ve achieved that balance between practicality and aesthetic appeal.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced during the font creation process?

Svet: This time, I really focused on getting the details just right, especially the numbers. I wanted them to feel flawless—no second-guessing later. I also spent a lot of time perfecting the ampersand (“&”), which is always a favorite element of mine to work on. Once I nailed down the key elements—like proportions, x-height, and the curve designs—the rest of the process started to flow naturally.

How do you envision Matt being used by designers in the creative industry? What would be its best applications?

Svet: Matt is incredibly versatile, so it can fit into a variety of design scenarios. It’s perfect for websites—both headings and body text—because of its readability and clean look. It also shines in video production, branding, and display advertising. Honestly, I’d even use Matt on my own business cards!

Iva: I see Matt shining in corporate settings.

Ani: Matt’s great for body text – super readable and modern.

Did other fonts inspire you during Matt’s design process?

Svet: Yes, absolutely. Intro was definitely a starting point for Matt. I took inspiration from its strong curves and proportions but wanted to take things further and make something unique in its own right.

If Matt were a person, what qualities would they possess?

Svet: Matt would be the life of the party! Sociable, charismatic, and approachable, yet confident enough to stand out. It’s got that friendly and unifying energy while also being a bit playful and cocky. It’s a font that can command attention without being overbearing.

Do you have any favorite characters in Matt?

Svet: I’m really proud of the numbers—they turned out exactly how I wanted. And I have a soft spot for the italics, especially the “v” and “w.” Those characters have such smooth, flowing shapes that I find really satisfying.
