Ligature

A ligature is a typographic character that merges two or more sequential letters into a single, unified shape for a more balanced, fluid reading experience. A classic example is fi, where the curve of the f flows into the i without colliding with its dot.

The fi, fl and ffi ligatures in Nexa Serif, each underlined in pink, showing how the f joins its neighbour into one combined glyph instead of colliding with it.

A ligature is a unified typographical mark that merges multiple sequential characters into a single, cohesive shape to create a more balanced and visually fluid reading experience. A classic illustration of this technique is the fi combination, which fuses the lowercase f and i so that the overarching curve of the f gracefully transitions into the i without colliding with its top dot.
