Background & Education
Born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria, Stefan studied Illustration and Visual Communication at the National Art Academy. He chose this path because he was passionate about drawing and design from a young age. His education gave him a strong foundation and solid fundamentals, as he was taught by some of the most respected names in the field.
Career Path
Stefan began his professional life as a graphic designer. In mid-2021, he joined Fontfabric as a type designer. His first major project was Petrov Sans, which he describes as a memorable experience because it was his introduction to geometric sans typefaces after previously working on scripts and serifs. Since then, his role has evolved. He began creating presentations for the fonts, was later promoted to Art Director, and now handles more technical support cases as his technical knowledge has grown.
Notable Projects & Contributions
Stefan is proud of all his projects, but he has a special appreciation for Brevis. The concept behind Brevis was to take the historic uncial script and reinterpret it for a modern audience. The biggest challenge was preserving the original character and authenticity while making it functional for today’s branding, editorial, and digital design. Other projects that reflect his personal design philosophy include Petrov Sans and Plush.
Style & Passion
Stefan’s design style, both in typography and visual design, is clean, simple, and non-generic. His motivation for creating is a desire to continuously improve on the skills he already has. Outside of work, he finds creative fuel in drawing.
