Roundness Axis (ROND)

This design attribute, designated as ROND within style sheets, is a customizable parameter available in select variable fonts that softens the profile of characters by transitioning their native, crisp, or geometric edges into circular forms.

Four heavy blue lowercase “a”s in a row above a thin pink slider, the corners of the letter softening step by step from fully squared off on the left to completely rounded on the right — a roundness axis rounds every corner and stroke end as the slider moves.

This design attribute, designated as ROND within style sheets, is a customizable parameter available in select variable fonts that softens the profile of characters by transitioning their native, crisp, or geometric edges into circular forms.

When applied within Wavefont, adjusting this setting transforms the blocky, rectangular bars typically used in data displays into elements featuring pronounced curvature at their upper and lower boundaries. While this function shares structural similarities with the softness setting, it operates through a distinct geometric calculation.
