Font Picker

Integrated directly into user interfaces, a font picker serves as the specific design element that enables individuals to select a particular typeface for their text.

A font picker menu: five typeface names stacked in a list, each set in the typeface it names, with a tall pink rule running down the side of the list marking the current selection.

Integrated directly into user interfaces, a font picker serves as the specific design element that enables individuals to select a particular typeface for their text.

Typically designed as a scrollable, drop-down selection menu containing all accessible type designs, this tool frequently features nested sub-menus or secondary drop-down menus to isolate specific structural variants like stroke weights and stylistic slants. Depending on the design of the application, the utility may display the available typeface titles using the standard system font of the operating system, render each title in its own corresponding typeface design, or present a hybrid layout that combines a standard text list with adjacent visual previews. Additionally, select applications, including Microsoft Word and platforms within Adobe’s Creative Cloud, feature real-time rendering capabilities that instantaneously refresh the highlighted typography on the digital workspace as the operator scrolls through the options in the selection tool.
