Svetoslav Simov

Summary

Svetoslav “Svet” Simov is the CEO and founder of Fontfabric. He’s a creative mind who combines his expertise in graphic design, drawing, and a passion for geometry to create innovative and iconic typefaces. With a clear, geometric design aesthetic, he has shaped Fontfabric’s identity and contributed to some of the most widely recognized typefaces used by global brands.

Background & Education

Born in Novi Pazar and raised in Shumen, both in northeastern Bulgaria, Svet studied Engineering Design at the Technical University in Sofia. He decided to leave his studies early to work for a living, which led him to gain hands-on experience and specialize directly in the field of graphic design.

Career Path

Svet began his professional path as a graphic designer, where his strong foundation in geometry and drawing quickly influenced his transition to typography. In the autumn of 2008, he officially founded Fontfabric, creating his first stylistically unique, display-geometric typefaces, Blou and Cube. As CEO and lead type designer, he is now responsible for shaping the company’s vision, creating original typeface families, and overseeing collaborative design projects.

Notable Projects & Contributions

Svet considers Uni Sans, Nexa, and Intro to be his most iconic and best-selling typefaces. Uni Sans holds a special place as it was Fontfabric’s first bestseller on MyFonts (2009), a typeface that, at the time, nearly challenged the dominance of Helvetica. He highlights Nexa for its unique expressiveness and usability, and Intro for its precise geometric lines and memorable character. He notes that he has seen Intro used in countless products and advertisements around the world.

Style & Passion

Svet is known for his clear, geometric design philosophy, transforming simple constructions into highly expressive and functional typefaces. His work is deeply rooted in a passion for geometry and precision, but always with the goal of inspiring and captivating a global audience. He remains committed to pushing the boundaries of typography, constantly experimenting with new forms while continuing to grow Fontfabric as a hub for innovative type design.
